Upon graduating from the University of Alberta in 1983 with a Bachelor of Arts in Economics, Gary immediately entered into his career in the Canadian capital markets. He has spent 25 of his 29 year career in various senior management roles working with domestic as well as international financial institutions servicing the institutional investment management community in both Canada and the United States. Gary’s career opportunities first lead him to Vancouver in 1989 when he was transferred from Edmonton by his firm, a highly regarded institutional equity boutique. He left Vancouver for Toronto in 1994 to take on an executive management and board of director’s role in a publicly traded national securities specialist headquartered in Montreal. And was head hunted by one of Canada’s largest financial institutions to return to Vancouver in 1996. From 2006 to 2010 Gary left the investment community and acquired a BC based heavy equipment manufacturer returning to join a Vancouver based discretionary investment manager in 2011.
Gary has been granted the Canadian Securities Institute designation of Chartered Investment Manager. He has also successfully completed the Canadian Securities Institute designations of PDO (Partner, Director & Officer) as well as Branch Manager. As a side note, Gary is proud to have graduated with a two year Commercial Cooking Diploma from the Northern Institute of Technology in Edmonton, which he completed during his years at the U of A.
Gary and his wife Kathy enjoyed raising their now adult children in West Vancouver. As an individual who believes in giving back to his community Gary sits on the Board of a local 25 employee Non Profit Society where he is the Treasurer as well as on the Strategic Planning Committee.
